Currently Joe is coaching the MBC Muckdogs 17u, 15u, and 13u teams. Joe was a Varsity Pitching Coach/Assistant Coach during his time at the High School Level. He has instructed/coached over 40 college or All-State High School players such as Alex Avila (University of Alabama; drafted by Detroit Tigers in the 5th Round of the 2008 Draft) and Nicolas Buss (University of Southern California; drafted by Los Angeles Dodgers in the 8th Round of the 2008 Draft).
As a player Joe was a pitcher on the 1981 Class A State Championship team at Bishop Gallagher and also led them to two Detroit Catholic League titles in ’80 and ’82. In college at Jacksonville State University, Joe recorded a team-best 1.89 ERA, going 6-0 with 52 strikeouts and only 10 earned runs in his 1986 season. At Jacksonville State University, Joe pitched on the same staff as former Detroit Tiger’s closer Todd Jones.
